Garden Papers

Create unique handmade papers incorporating flowers, leaves, fibres etc. in this 2 hour taster workshop.

You will learn basic papermaking techniques, create your own handmade paper and incorporate plant and flower materials for decorative and textural effects.

(You are welcome to bring small flowers, leaves etc. from your own garden, but lots will be provided, so you don't need to have a garden to participate in this workshop!)

Papers created at the workshop can then be used at a later date, for a range of decorative projects e.g. to make unique greetings cards, collages, picture frames and book covers. Please bring an apron.

felt workshop with Anne Crowther at the Craft House, Salttaire

Session 3
Tuesday 3 October, 11am - 1pm

Fascinating Felting  - 2 in 1 taster

A taster workshop to introduce you to both methods of felt making – one wet, the other dry!

Using hot soapy water, the wet method is ideal for transforming sheep's fleece into colourful felt, which could then be cut and sewn into purses, bags, mounted in frames, etc.

The dry method, using needles, is great for detailed, patterned and sculpted surfaces and allows you to bond fleece to other fabric surfaces too.

You will have the opportunity to create samples exploring both methods to take away with you.
This workshop will be colourful, wet and very therapeutic as you spend your time gently massaging the fleece or pounding the fibres depending on how you are feeling!

Please bring an apron.

Recycle – REUSE – Reweave

Immerse yourself in a world of colour and texture in this taster workshop when you will transform and recycle fabrics into a beautiful hand-woven sampler / mat.

In the session you'll have a go at transforming and recycling fabrics into yarns / cords using simple drop spindles.

You will gather all the skills you need to be able to recycle and reweave fabrics at home to create samplers, mats, coasters and even rugs!

(Materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own cotton fabrics to cut up and reuse, even old t-shirts make great yarns !)
